Funding Dossier Private 11 August 2026

Nineteen shipped projects, two published books, and no company to put them under.

There are named grant programs, open right now, whose stated remit already describes work that exists and runs. Some take individuals. The larger ones take entities only. That is the entire gap, and it is the only thing missing.

Put a company behind work that is already built.

Everything in The assets exists. It is written, deployed and reachable. None of it is a deck or a roadmap. What none of it has is a legal entity, and that single absence closes roughly a million dollars of funding that is otherwise a direct match.

The proposal is narrow: these projects are licensed to an existing operating company, that company files as the applicant, and the funding lands somewhere that already has a bank account, an EIN and somebody who does paperwork for a living. Nothing new has to be incorporated to begin.

As one person
~$200k

Realistic ceiling across every individual-eligible program combined, most of it in $10k pieces, each with its own application and its own report.

There is a third path, and it costs nobody anything

The AI Alignment Foundation offers fiscal sponsorship as well as grants. Under fiscal sponsorship an existing nonprofit receives and administers the money on a project's behalf, which gets entity-tier eligibility without incorporating anything at all.

It is slower and it takes a cut, and it does not open the startup track. It is listed here because a fair pitch names the option that does not need the person being pitched.

What the company would be getting

Terms, stated plainly so they are not argued later

  1. The company is the applicant. It files, holds the grant and receives the funds. The individual-eligible applications proceed in parallel regardless.
  2. The work is licensed, not surrendered. One page per project. The company gets what it needs to apply and operate; the code does not vanish into a cap table by accident.
  3. Somebody who is not the builder does the paperwork. That is the actual service being requested. Filings, banking, and the reporting obligations attached to grant money.
  4. The split is agreed before anything is filed. Not after a grant lands. This is the part that ruins these arrangements when it is left vague.

Dates that decide things

23 Aug 2026
Corrigibility Research Fund closes. Needs no entity, so it goes regardless of every other decision on this page.
23 Aug 2026
Lightcone Commons closes. Entity only, which means a decision inside twelve days for it to be attemptable at all.
Rolling
Halcyon Futures, up to one million. No deadline pressure and the largest line on the page. Worth taking the time to do properly.
This month
Cosmos, RAAIS, Leo Gao, Transformative AI Fund. All individual-eligible. Each one that lands becomes evidence for the entity-tier applications rather than a separate errand.
Batch 5
AI Grant reopens. Needs a Delaware corporation in place before applying, which is a lead-time question rather than a paperwork one.
